Say I roll a 4. Do I then only add the 4, my dexteritymodifier, to the damage, totaling 8 damage I have read the player guide.

I have asked my DM and his DM and buddies which have played DnD.

They are all either uncertain or simply say add the approperiate modifiers.

And for damage: When attacking with a weapon, you add your ability modifierthe same modifier used for the attack rollto the damage.

We could answer every question you have, but you are better off just reading this chapter first and then asking about things you do not understand.

Not to be a dick about it by the way, but you would have found the answer in 10 seconds if you simply googled your question before posting.

The problem was that noone that I asked was 100 sure about their answer, sometimes gave me the wrong answer or simply said add the approperiate modifiers, which doesnt help the specifics.

Specifically what I feel you are trying to ask is: Do I add my proficiency bonus to my DAMAGE roll The answer as best I can figure out is No The problem with the go read the book answers, is that the book never specifically states this.

If you have any spells, class features, magic items or whatever that says it adds to your attack rolls, add those too.

Weapon Damage: the weapons listed damage ability score modifier.

Same as above with regards to spells, class features, magic items, etc.

If something says it adds to the damage with your weapon, add it to the damage.

In your example, you got the math right.

DEX is 4 modifier.

If your proficiency is 2 (and assuming you are actually proficient with the weapon), and you roll a 10 thats: 10 2 4 16.

I dont know anyone who plays but me and my husband just wanted to try it and loved it and we didnt have anyone to compare games with or ask if the way we were doing it was right.

The PHB doesnt do a super great job at telling the rules, but its such a big game with so many possibilities that Im sure its hard to put the rules into words.

The stat mod is added to all relevant rolls (including damage).
